A tent is one of the essential things to have, second to your backpack. Geodesic 3-season dome tents are the best type of tent here in the Philippines because they are streamlined enough to resist strong winds when you are camping in a high altitude area or in the presence of tropical depressions. Be sure to pick a good quality tent that's water resistant even in rains accompanied by strong wind.

Internal framed backpacks are generally better than the external framed ones, in terms of versatility ,and care of the equipment carried inside. In contrary external framed backpacks can carry and handle large amount of equipment and personal belongings. Acquire a good Backpack Cover to keep your pack dry when raining.

Stoves

Stoves come in many types: butane burners, kerosene burners, lighter fluid burners, and multi-fueled burners. Butane burner is a classic burner still used by mountaineers and expeditors around the world because it is easy to use and needs no priming. A good emergency stove is "De latang apoy" which is made in the Philippines.

Shoes / Sandals

Fabric Boots are lightweight and comfortable. But they easily disintegrate when oftenly used in wet and muddy terrain.

Leather Boots are very durable. But they are heavy and uncomfortable that make them unsuitable for long hikes.

Trail Running Shoes --Very lightweight and comfortable for long hikes.

Sandals is the most common footwear of Filipino Mountaineers. They are versatile and suitable for wet conditions. But they offer less protection for the foot and ankle.
